Strobl am Wolfgangsee is the ideal starting point for active sports, such as water sports, mountain biking, hiking and climbing.
A special highlight is hiking on the Postalm, the second highest alpine plateau in Europe. At the heart of the Salzkammergut there is also plenty to to for culture lovers.
Your holiday home is about 15 minutes by car from the imperial town of Bad Ischl. The Operetta Festival in July and August, with its high quality musical entertainment will make your summer holiday simply perfect. Enjoy culinary specialities from the region at the the famous Cafe Zauner or why not simply spoil yourself with a relaxing day in the Kaisertherme spa.
Salzburg is also only 40 minutes away. Salzburg is not only well known for its annual music and drama festival, but also for the Hohensalzburg Castle, the cathedral and its skyline which is shaped by the church spires of the old town. As well as, the festival there are also lots of musuems and other cultural attractions.
Winter activities on lake wolfgang:
There is a cross country ski track 100 m from your holiday home which takes you through Blinklingmoos to Abersee. The Postalm Ski area, is 20 min by car from Strobl, and is not just for skiers, but also for cross-country skiers and snowboarders.
There are also other ski resorts in the area, such as, Dachstein West, Krippenstein and the Feuerkogel. They are about 40 minutes drive away. An adventure agency in the region also offers guided ski tours, ice-climbing and snow shoe walking.
Winter walks along cleared pathways are relaxing for both for body and soul.
Ice skating on Lake Wolfgang is an experience not to be missed, but if it isn't frozen over then you can take a trip to the ice skating rink in Kaltenbach, near Bad Ischl.
Night toboganning is a must. Gasthof Kleefeld in Strobl has a 1.5 km long run which is one of the most beautiful natural toboggan runs, and as they have a snow making machine snow is guaranteed. Sledges can be rented and why not charge your batteries in the inn with something to eat and drink beforehand. There is also a natural tobogann run in St. Gilgen on the Weißwand.
The Eurotherme spa in Bad Ischl is just the thing after a winter walk. There are sauna facilities here as well as in Fuschl.
The Advent Markets in Strobl, St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen have become very popular over the last few years. Tradition is respected and there is a very christmassy and peacfeul atmosphere. If you don't want to drive then why not take the make use of the ship service on the lake and this means you can warm yourself up at the punch stand.
The Christmas market in Salzburg is also worth a visit as Salzburg is also very charming at Christmas time.
